I am the middle position on religion, somewhere between atheist and wanting a particular flavor of organized religion.
Spirituality is better as a few general ideas than a dogma.

Thanks for your comment. I don't truck with religion either. Church as most people see it means denomination, which didn't exist in God's plan. His plan is simple. So the author above speaks of church in the sense of the New Testament, that single one Jesus established and which we ought to get back to.

I go even further: I see no reason to limit my religious belief to a single denomination, because all were created by humans.
It is better to avoid the dogma entirely. Focus on God and not Man, if you know what I mean. This applies to all the big religions.

You're right: all denominations were created by humans. The church, however, was built by Christ. It figures in his eternal purpose. I'm with you on avoiding dogma. At the same time, there is inspired teaching for us in the New Testament.

Maybe so. I think having people generate the learning themselves from a few core principles actually cements it in the mind.

True that. One of my favorite sayings is: Look at the Text! Don't take my word for it.

I like analyzing text.
On the other hand, I think one can get lost in the text and miss the core reasons...
I'm thinking more of academic philosophy here to be honest.

Funny you should say that. Totally agree. I'm preparing an issue of our Brazilian mag with the theme of seeing the big picture and not getting lost in some of the details. Forest for the trees idea.
