You should send them a note saying "I was in Word with my article, but I couldn't find the feature in Word to submit it to you, so I sent it to someone else who would let me upload the file to them."

Agreed! I've used them since grade school. Learned how to turn a little cheap one on the end, so the ink could dry before my left hand passed over it. Ball pens were always a big problem.

My wife has been slowly collecting fountain pens for decades. She recently found one at a yard sale in our neighborhood that is 100 years old. She got it cleaned up and functional again.
